Integrated Farm in Palampitty ( Near Madu district in Mannar)
Government Leased a 10 acre fertile land to Sivan Arul to develop into an integrated dairy and Poultry Farm. Palampitty is a small village with many war affected people and has a high percentage of unemployment. Sivan Arul was keen to start up an integrated farm here mainly to give job opportunities to the villagers and to empower and offer training opportunities to the youth. Our plan is to sell half of the milk locally to locals in reduced price . Money generated from the project will be reinvested back into the community to provide education to children and to fight undernutrition for children living under poverty line.
We were very fortunate to secure a DFAT(Department of Foreign affairs and Trade) grant last year. We were awarded Aus dollars60,000 to develop this integrated farm. We were one of the three projects selected from Sri Lanka. with our own funding the cost of the whole project will be Aus $130,000. 60 percent of the work has been completed and by October we hope to complete the project.
